⭐ Nexro Energy Recommends

1
Purchase Modules Before July 3

Buying and taking delivery of solar panels before the deadline is the strongest way to establish IRS "beginning of construction" under the Physical Work Test.

Not tax advice — consult your CPA or tax attorney for your specific situation.
2
Pay 10% Upfront (Not Just 5%)

For systems ≤1.5 MW AC, the 5% cost safe harbor is still available. We recommend 10% to buffer against change orders that could push you below the threshold.

Not tax advice — confirm the right amount with your CPA or tax attorney.
3
Nonprofits & Cities: Elect Direct Pay

Tax-exempt organizations (schools, cities, nonprofits) can receive the ITC as a direct IRS cash payment — not a credit. This can equal 30%+ of project cost paid directly to you.

Not tax advice. Official IRS guidance: IRS Elective Pay FAQ ↗
4
FEOC Rules Tighten After July 3

Projects contracted after July 3, 2026 face tighter limits on Chinese/Russian components (drops from 40% to 25% immediately). Lock in current rules by acting now.

Not tax advice — verify FEOC compliance with your CPA or tax attorney.
⭐ IRS Reference — Elective Pay (Direct Payment)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the commercial solar ITC deadline and how do I qualify?
The commercial 30% Investment Tax Credit (Section 48E) requires you to "begin construction" by July 3, 2026 and place the system in service by December 31, 2030. The two IRS-approved methods are the Physical Work Test (purchase & delivery of major equipment qualifies) and the 5% Cost Safe Harbor (for systems ≤1.5 MW AC). Contact Nexro Energy immediately — the deadline is firm. Not tax advice — consult your CPA or tax attorney.
Can my nonprofit, school, or city still get the solar tax credit?
Yes — through "elective pay" (direct payment). Tax-exempt organizations that don't owe federal taxes can elect to receive the ITC value as a direct cash payment from the IRS. This can equal 30% or more of project cost. See the official IRS Elective Pay FAQ for details. The same July 3, 2026 begin-construction deadline applies. Not tax advice — consult your CPA or tax attorney.
Do you handle electrical work beyond just solar?
Yes — Nexro Energy holds a California C-10 Electrical Contractor license (#1137110). We perform full electrical contracting including panel and service upgrades (100A–400A), commercial wiring, subpanel installations, LED lighting retrofits, generator connections, EV charging infrastructure, and public works electrical projects. Having one licensed contractor for both solar and electrical saves time and eliminates coordination problems.
What is the California SGIP battery rebate and how much can I get?
The Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) is a California state rebate for battery storage systems — completely separate from federal tax credits. Residential customers can receive up to $400/kWh; commercial customers receive approximately $250/kWh. Nexro Energy handles the SGIP reservation application on your behalf. Funding is limited and allocated by reservation, so early action is recommended.
Can you do prevailing wage / public works solar projects?
Yes. Nexro Energy is registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR #2000015262) for prevailing wage public works projects. We have experience with solar, EV charging, and electrical projects for municipalities, school districts, counties, and state agencies. We are CEQA-familiar and can work within public procurement processes.
How does NEM 3.0 affect my solar savings in California?
California's Net Energy Metering 3.0 (Net Billing Tariff), effective April 15, 2023, significantly reduced the export credit rate for excess solar energy sent to the grid — by roughly 75% compared to NEM 2.0. This makes battery storage far more valuable, as you can store excess solar and use it during peak evening hours rather than exporting it at low rates. Nexro Energy designs all new systems for NEM 3.0 optimization, typically recommending battery pairing for best returns.
What should I do first if I'm interested in commercial solar?
Call us at (310) 634-7149 or fill out the contact form below. We'll schedule a free site assessment and provide a financial model showing your projected savings, payback period, and applicable incentives. Given the July 3, 2026 ITC safe harbor deadline, earlier is better — equipment procurement and safe harbor documentation take time to complete properly.
